Child Dedications

Child dedications are special services for babies and very young children. These services dedicate children to Christ and give the family the opportunity to affirm that the child will be brought up in the faith, to give thanks for the child and to demonstrate commitment to Christ.

The practice of child dedication has been modelled throughout the Bible.

The Israelites brought their 8-day-old children to the priest for blessing. Hannah (I Samuel 1:24-28) brought her long-awaited son Samuel to the priest Eli to dedicate him to the Lord. Mary and Joseph brought baby Jesus to the temple for his dedication.

The family affiirms their desire that the child will, in adult life, then receive Jesus as their personal saviour and make their own commitment to Christ followed by Baptism.

Dedications can be held at the Cathedral and refreshments can be arranged just a few steps away at Wroxall Abbey Hotel.
